Wind Ensemble

AP Music Theory

  • AP Music Theory is a class that is offered during the school day. It's a rigorous in-depth dive into music theory. This class generally covers the first semester to the first year in a music school music theory class.

Students in this class should also be taking a performance ensemble class (i.e. band, choir, orchestra, theatre) because the concepts discussed in this AP class can apply to material being covered in the ensemble class.

This is a fast-paced class which requires time outside of school hours devoted to learning and practicing the material that is being taught. Topics to be covered include: Reading notes in all clefs, melodic and harmonic dictation up to four voices, all modes/scales, chord progressions, 4-part writing, harmonic analysis and figured bass.
