Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Bryan Cornell

Dear Families,

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to fifth grade at Banneker Elementary! My name is Bryan Cornell and I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. Fifth grade is a unique and very important grade for your child as they complete their elementary experience and prepare for middle school. I know there will be many fun and exciting things we’ll study this year and I can’t wait to see how far your child will go!

This is my fourth year teaching at Banneker and my eigth year teaching in Loudoun County. Before I became a teacher, I was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, working on boats and helicopters. I grew up in northern New Jersey and graduated from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania with a degree in Elementary Education. I live in Loudoun County with my wife, who is also an LCPS teacher, and our two children, Luke and Anna. In my free time, I love to go fishing and kayaking in the Shenandoah River.

This school year, I will challenge your child with respectful learning tasks that encourage them to think critically and have fun, while fostering their development as a responsible learner and world class citizens. Collaboratively, we will create a community where all students feel safe to take risks in their learning and to challenge themselves to always perform their best. We will incorporate technology in a variety of ways to explore the different topics of study and to connect with the world around us. Together, we will work to become better readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, problem solvers, leaders, and friends.

I look forward to getting to know all of the students and their families as we begin our year together!
