Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Fanny Mixter

Hi Red Wings,

My name is Fanny Mixter and this is my 6th year teaching and my third year teaching Kindergarten at CRE!

A little bit about myself: I was born in Nicaragua and emigrated to the US with my family. I grew up in Camden, New Jersey (just a stone’s throw away from Philadelphia - Go Eagles). I went to college at Rutgers University and met my husband, Ayo. We now have 2 kids, Isabella and Isaiah, who are 4 and 6.They are best friends and Isabella believes she is the boss of everyone. Isaiah comes to school with me! He is going to 1st grade.

I decided that I wanted to be a teacher at the age of 16, after doing a 2 week-long internship at a school in my neighborhood. After college, I was hired to teach Kindergarten at that same school (full circle moment). I taught there in New Jersey for 3 years and moved to Virginia because of my husband’s work in D.C. He worked at the White House during President Obama’s last year and I thoroughly enjoyed touring the White House a few times!

During my first few years in Virginia, I decided to open 2 Eye Level Learning Centers, Ashburn and Alexandria, and I enjoyed operating the businesses. However, I would often find my way into the classes to teach the students. After 5 years of this, I knew I had to go back into the classroom and well, here we are! This will be my third year  at CRE and I am so passionate about education and children. Ms. Briones is my teacher's assistant and together, we make sure that our scholars learn kindness and how to SOAR (Self-control, Ownership, Appreciate others, and Respect). I am very excited to meet all of the parents and children that will walk the halls of CRE.
