Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Jason Comins

Mr. Comins is thrilled to be back at Hovatter Elementary again in 2022-2023.  He's looking forward to reconnecting with all students and families. He has twenty-seven years of experience teaching physical education at the elementary level (twenty-three years in LCPS).

Mr. Comins attended Frostburg State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education and secured a master’s degree from Shenandoah University in Educational Administration. A quality physical education program is paramount to Mr. Comins. He believes that fitness, nutrition, sleep, mindfulness, and deep-meaningful relationships are the key components of every successful physical education program. In addition to content, he strives to keep students moving for 90% of each class period, stresses safety routinely, and integrates technology into over 95% of his classes. He believes that students learn best kinesthetically, and he enjoys the challenge of including core content from all subject areas into the gymnasium.

Mr. Comins lives in Winchester, VA with his wife Nancy, his twin boys Camden and Peyton, and has a dog named Brooks (an Orioles theme always at the Comins house). Besides teaching, Mr. Comins loves to push the physical and mental limits of fitness. He enjoys 100-mile mountain ultramarathons the most. Currently, he is gearing up to enter the JFK 50 miler with his son in November.
