Mr. Tim Finnerty

Tim Finnerty is thrilled to be joining the Hovatter Honeybee school community to serve as Assistant Principal. He is eager to connect with parents, children, staff, and community members to help create a positive, inclusive school culture that empowers all students to be critical thinkers, collaborators, and contributors in our community and beyond. Prior to joining Hovatter, Tim served as Dean of Students with Dominion Trail Elementary School. He also taught third grade at Tolbert Elementary School. Prior to joining LCPS, Tim had previous experiences teaching in districts in Maryland and North Carolina.

Mr. Finnerty is originally from the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. He attended SUNY Cortland, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education. Upon graduation, he relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he began his teaching career. He also attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he received a Master of Education in Language & Literacy. Most recently, Mr. Finnerty completed his Instructional Leadership and Professional Development program through Towson University.

Tim has a wonderful wife who shares his passion for education. In his spare time, Tim loves to exercise, play/watch sports (go Pittsburgh!), and go for walks with his energetic pup, Brodie. Tim is looking forward to the journey ahead with the Hovatter school community!
