Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

  • Introduce a Girl to Engineering (IAGTE) Day started in February 2001 as a project of DiscoverE and other professional engineering organizations. The goal was to show middle school girls what it's like to work as an engineer.

We have been very fortunate to partner with Collins Aerospace here in Sterling for IAGTE. They have invited our students to their facility for field trips, and on February 25, 2021 they held a virtual IAGTE Day.

IAGTE 2021

  • Students met engineers who work in a variety of fields, including systems, software, computer, aerospace, and other engineering disciplines. They also watched a Chats with Changemakers interview with Emily Muggleton, a design engineer with Collins Aerospace. She designs spacesuits and the backpacks the astronauts on the ISS wear during space walks.

IAGTE 2020

  • For IAGTE 2020, Collins Aerospace invited students from Sterling Middle School and other middle schools. They tried out flight simulators, programmed with Raspberry Pi, and worked in binary code. Our hosts were as excited as the students!
