Cool Spring Elementary School Students Receive Bikes

A dozen Cool Spring Elementary students received gently-used bikes and new bike helmets at the Congestion Must Go bike distribution event on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

The program is a partnership with Maverick Bike Shop and Café, located at the Virginia Village Shopping Center in Leesburg. Maverick reconditions used bikes donated to the program. Helmets are provided by Doug Landau of the Landau Law Firm in Herndon through a matching grant with the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.

The Loudoun County Public Schools Safe Routes to Schools and Congestion Must Go programs collaborate to encourage biking to school as an alternative form of transportation on busy LCPS campuses.

  • The LCPS Bike Donation Program is a collaborative effort with Maverick Bike Café and LCPS.  The program is active between September and February each year.  The goal is to supply bikes to students in need, particularly in our Title I schools but is available to all LCPS schools that have students in need.  Students will receive a bike, helmet, lock and light along with safety information.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Janice.Jennings@lcps.org or Kelly.Smit@lcps.org.

A huge thank you to Maverick Bikes & Café, Abrams & Landau law firm, Bike Loudoun, and the County of Loudoun Bike to Work Program, and donors like Brambleton’s HOA, the VDOT SRTS mini-grant, and the Loudoun Education Foundations’ grant. The Bike Donation Program would not be possible without their support.
