Mark J. Smith, Ed.D., Chief of Staff
Dr. Mark J. Smith, chief of staff for Loudoun County Public Schools, is a key strategic advisor to the superintendent and other members of the superintendent’s cabinet. Dr. Smith also serves as liaison to members of the School Board and supervises the director of equity.
Previously, Dr. Smith served as a director in Human Resources and Talent Development for Loudoun County Public Schools. Before transitioning to division administration, Dr. Smith served as a chemistry teacher at North Stafford High School, an assistant principal at Gayle Middle School, an assistant principal at Mountain View High School and as principal of Stafford Middle School, in Stafford County, Va. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP) and was selected as the VASSP 2017 Outstanding Middle School Principal of Virginia.
Dr. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science; a master’s degree in educational leadership from George Mason University, and a doctorate in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development.
