Lottie Spurlock, Director of Equity

  • Lottie Spurlock was appointed Director of Equity in July 2019.  She is enthusiastic about serving in this role as LCPS makes diversity, inclusion and equity a priority.  She is partnering with school and community groups to create a stronger and more impactful equity imprint for LCPS.

    Mrs. Spurlock joined the Superintendent’s staff after having previously served as principal of both Cardinal Ridge and Rolling Ridge elementary schools.  Prior to that, she was the assistant principal of Guilford Elementary and A.P. Hill Elementary in the Petersburg City Schools.  Mrs. Spurlock also was the site coordinator of the Communities in School Program at Chalkley Elementary School in the Chesterfield County Public Schools.

    In her role as an LCPS administrator, Mrs. Spurlock served on various advisory committees, including acting as the staff liaison to the Ad Hoc Committee on Equity.  She has delivered presentations at national conferences and been deeply involved with project-based learning and personalized learning.

    In addition to strong leadership skills, Mrs. Spurlock brings rich instructional experience to her role as Equity Director as well.  She served as the Beginning Teacher Advisor for the Chesterfield County Schools and Virginia Commonwealth University. This role came after she spent 14 years as an elementary classroom teacher in both the Chesterfield County Public Schools and Prince George County Schools.  Mrs. Spurlock’s early teaching efforts were recognized with the Sallie Mae Award for Outstanding First-Year Teachers for Chesterfield County Public Schools in 1993.

    Mrs. Spurlock holds a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Virginia State University, a master of arts in curriculum and instruction from Central Michigan University and a post-master’s certificate in educational leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
