Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jackie Baker

Hello! My name is Mrs. Baker, and this will be my fifth-year teaching at Horizon Elementary as a part-time EL teacher. Before COVID-19, I also worked at Classroom of Discovery preschool where I was the director and a preschool teacher for eighteen years.

I was born in Oregon and grew up in Alaska. I moved to Virginia in 1993 where I have lived for twenty-seven years. In that time, I also spent a year living in Brussels, Belgium where I traveled extensively throughout Europe and parts of Asia and learned a lot about other cultures and languages. I live in the Sterling area with my husband, three teenage children, and dog Fergie.

I received my Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. I completed my graduate education at George Mason University and received a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in ESL. In 2020, I completed a graduate certificate in Specialized Reading Instruction through George Mason University.

I have been teaching for over twenty-five years and have spent much of my career teaching preschool, kindergarten, first, and third grade.

I am grateful for the opportunity to work at Horizon Elementary with such a unique and culturally diverse population of students and colleagues. Go Comets!
