Mrs. Colleen Childs

Hello Legacy Students' & Families,

My name is Colleen Childs, this is my fourth year at Legacy as an EL Teacher!  It has been a privilege working at Legacy with such an amazing group of students and staff and I'm incredibly thankful!  Legacy Labs, you are the best! 

I was born and raised in Southern California between Disneyland and the beach!  I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing and a Master of Business Administration from Woodbury University.  I worked in retail, real estate, sales and marketing.  But, what I really loved was working with and teaching children at churches I attended!

I realized I wanted to make my vocation, my profession, and went on to earn a Master's in Education from the University of Phoenix.  I taught 7th and 8th Grade English in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Then a job transfer for my husband's work relocated us back to Southern California, where I taught Kindergarten, First Grade, 6th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies and 6th, 7th & 8th Grade ELL.  

While my two sons, Kenny and Colin, were young, I worked part-time as a Literacy Tutor and Preschool Teacher.  I'm inspired and motivated when children I teach learn to read!  I love the diversity here in Northern Virginia and the opportunity to work with students and families from all over the world.
