• Hello Smart's Mill Mavericks!

My name is Ms. Kolcum and I am going to be the Special Programs Counselor this year.  As the Special Programs Counselor, I will be working with all 3 grade levels of students and with the other 3 grade level counselors.  Together, we will be conducting small groups, cross grade level groups, administering career lessons and doing classroom guidance lessons.

This year will be my 14th year at Smart's Mill working in the School Counseling Department.  I love working with middle school students and at Smart's Mill, which is why I keep coming back!  Prior to moving to Loudoun County, my family and I lived in Caroline County, VA.  While in Caroline County, I taught and worked as a school counselor in both the middle and high school.  My preference, however, was always the middle school.

I am married and I have 2 daughters.  My older daughter is starting grad school this year at Duquesne University and my younger daughter is starting her last year at George Mason University.  We also have a black lab named Ozzie who I enjoy taking on walks every day.  Other than walking, I enjoy reading, cooking, gardening and going on family vacations.

I am really excited about starting another year here at Smart's!
