Mrs. Thuy Wallace
I am excited for the 2022-23 school year and to meet all my new students. We are going to have a fantastic year filled with lots of fun learning and new experiences! First Grade is a year of lots of growth, both academically and emotionally. Every day, we will have reading, writing, phonics, math, content (science, health and social studies), and SEL (Social Emotional Learning). Of course, we will also have recess twice daily, snack time, lunch, and lots of opportunities to interact with one another.
Just a little about me...I was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States of America in 1975 when I was three years old. My family settled in Texas where I eventually earned my Bachelor of Science in Education from The University of Texas at Austin. Hook'em Horns! I then started teaching 6th grade Math and Science in Dallas, Texas. From there, I moved to Monterey, California and taught Kindergarten. After a couple of years, I moved to Virginia where I taught First Grade in Fairfax County and earned my Masters in Education from George Mason University. I then started my own family and was able to stay home for 12 years with my two daughters. Kayla is my oldest and just started her freshmen year at James Madison University. Melia is my youngest and is a rising junior at Potomac Falls High School. If you go to either JMU or PFHS football games, you might see them during the half-time show spinning their flags with the color guard. This is my seventh year at Horizon Elementary teaching First Grade.
Through the years, we have lived overseas in both Tokyo, Japan and Bangkok, Thailand. During my free time, I love to garden, read and spend time with my family.
I look forward to an amazing year in First Grade. Let's get started!!!
