• Welcome to Rosa Lee Carter, Coyotes! My name is Mariyah Riaz, and I am thrilled to be a part of the Rosa Lee Carter team as a second grade resource teacher this year. This will be my second year at Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School and I am excited to get to know new Coyotoes and and continue my journey.
I am originally from Canada, but have lived in Virginia for most of my life. My family and I have been in Northern Virginia for 17 years. I am an LCPS graduate myself, Roar Pride!  I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and my Master's Degree in Special Education from George Mason University.  In addition to teaching, I am a Registered Behavior Technician and I am able to provide Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy. Teaching is my passion and I love making a new family each year. Building connections with students and their families is always my priorty. "Connection before content" is a saying that I hold very close to my heart. I beleive when there is a strong conenction between a teacher and a student, then the learning comes natrually.
Aside from teaching, I enjoy working out, running, hiking, reading, spending time with my family, and of course, the occasional binge on Netflix!
