Ms. Maria Powers

Ms. Powers is excited to continue to work with the class of 2029 as they transition to middle school. This will be her third year at LCPS, but before this she was in Prince William County as an elementary school counselor. Additionally, Ms. Powers taught middle school Spanish in Spotsylvania County. Ms Powers has a Bachelors of Arts in Human Geography from the University of Mary Washington, and a Masters of Education in School Counseling from Liberty University. She was born in Peru and speak fluent Spanish, but moved to Virginia at a young age. During her free time she loves spending time with family and friends, she is a huge Washington Nationals fan and loves to run! She just got married this summer, and her husband is a pilot for the Air Force.
As a school counselor, Ms. Powers will support students’ academic, social/emotional, and career development through classroom counseling lessons, small group counseling and individual counseling. She is here to help students develop skills and strategies to be successful in school, at home, and in their community. Ms. Power believes in helping students become competent in responsible decision making, relationship skills, self-management, self-awareness, and social awareness. Additionally, she will also facilitate parent/teacher conferences when needed.
