Hi Gators! My name is Shannon Walker, and I am thrilled to be returning to the second grade team at Goshen Post Elementary for the fourth year! I believe inquiry-based, authentic learning experiences empower students to be leaders inside and outside of school. I am so excited to see how our class will learn and grow together this year through GPE's commitment to deeper learning and PBL.
I grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I have loved living in Virginia and being part of our school community. When I am not teaching, I enjoy traveling, being outdoors, reading, and spending time with my family and friends. I also have a passion for the arts, especially theatre.
I earned a Bachelor of Science and honors in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and minors in Special Education, Education Policy Studies, and Theatre from the Schreyer Honors College at the Pennsylvania State University-University Park. After student-teaching, I taught abroad in Thessaloniki, Greece, where I assisted primary and secondary English language teachers. I am excited to begin a Masters program this year with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction.
My teaching is focused on providing student-centered learning experiences that allow students to be active, creative, collaborative and share their unique intelligences with others. I believe in cultivating a strong classroom community that encourages risk-taking and makes our classroom a place children love coming to every day. It is important to me that we partner to support your learner’s personal and academic goals.
I cannot wait to meet you and get to know your wonderful learners. We are going to have a fantastic year in second grade!
