Resource Teacher
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year at Mill Run. My name is Susan Curcio, and I am a Learning Specialist and Case Manager working with students in third grade. This is the eighth year that Mrs. Kretzler and I have teamed together, and Mr. Wojick and I have worked together many years since Mill Run opened. I have worked at all grade levels since beginning at Mill Run when the school opened in 2000. I am very proud to be part of the charter staff at Mill Run, and l look forward to seeing familiar faces and getting to know new students and parents in the upcoming school year as we begin our twenty-fourth year.
There have been a lot of growth and changes these past twenty plus years, but Mill Run has always been a school where we put "children first." We all continue to grow as teachers and learners. There have been subtle changes throughout the years, but none more than since the pandemic! This year will be my 26th year in Loudoun County working in Special Education. My undergraduate degree is in Liberal Studies with concentrations in education, psychology and sociology from Marymount University, and I have a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Old Dominion University. Additionally, I completed a certificate program in Specialized Reading Instruction for students with Specific Learning Disabilities through George Mason University. I received training in the OG methodology and recently I completed LETRS training. I began to implement some of the reading strategies in the 2017-2018 school year, and will continue this year. I love watching each child's growth as they gain confidence in their own abilities, and "I can't" becomes "I can!"
I have lived in Ashburn almost thirty years, and my own two children attended Loudoun County Schools. My three grandchildren currently attend school in Loudoun County, and Brooklynn is in fourth grade right here at Mill Run. On the weekend, I love to spend time with my family and enjoy watching the grandkids' activities. This summer I had some beach time, time at local pools, water parks, and lakes, a fun trip to New York City where we stayed in Times Square and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rockefeller Center, saw a show, and shopped. There was also time for plenty of relaxation which included reading some great books!
Please don't hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at school via email or telephone. I look forward to a terrific year!
