• Welcome to Little Knights' Preschool

Thank you for your interest in our program!

    Program Details

The JCHS Little Knights Preschool Program is a hands-on learning environment for high school students in grades 10-12.  This is currently our seventh year in operation.  The program enables high school students to explore the possibility of a career in Early Childhood Education while enabling 20 preschoolers, ages 3 ½ - 5, to benefit from their first exposure to a classroom setting.

High school students are paired primarily one-on-one with your preschooler and will work with them each preschool day to enhance their kindergarten readiness skills. (We follow Loudoun County’s criteria for Kindergarten Readiness.  Go to https://www.lcps.org/cms/lib/VA01000195/Centricity/Domain/677/VA%20Foundation%20Blocks%20for%20Early%20Learning.pdf for more information.) In addition, high school students learn to develop quality lesson plans and curriculum for preschoolers and will assume the role of teacher for the day.  Each preschool day, your child will experience age-appropriate lessons in core subjects such as math, language arts, science, and social studies.  Each month, the preschoolers will explore a new theme such as the changing seasons, community helpers, sports, nutrition and wellness, and cultures around the world.

    Hours

The hours of the preschool will not be confirmed until August 2020.  The first day of preschool will be in early October and will run until May.  The hours and days that the program is offered is dictated by the number of high school students that sign up for the class and when that class can be conducted based on the whole school schedule.

This past year, our schedule was:  Monday through Thursday from 9:25 – 1:45, with no preschool on Fridays. Occantionally, we will not have preschool depending on the actitivies planned at the high school.  You will be given a calendar each month which will indicate what days the preschool will take place each week.
