Mr. Patrick Green

Hello Tigers! My name is Mr. Green, along with Mrs. Basinger we are the Art Teachers at IHS and the sponsor of the National Art Honor Society. It has been an honor to be a part of opening this amazing school and continuing to grow the artculture in this wonderful community for the 5th year.

I grew up in Loudoun County, went to Lovettsville Elementary, Blue Ridge Middle School, and graduated from Loudoun Valley in 1999! I studied at the University of Virginia for my Undergraduate degree in Fine Arts and Psychology, and then completed my Masters of Art Education in Art Teaching at George Mason University.

This year marks my 16th year teaching in Loudoun County Public Schools, and my first year teaching high school! Previously I spent 7 years teaching at Belmont Station Elementary, and 4 years at Mercer Middle School. It has always been my dream to teach in high school, so I'm probably more excited than my students are!

I believe in, and was trained in a "Big Ideas" approach to Art Education. The basic idea of which is that when we are creating artwork, the focus is on the WHY, not the WHAT. We begin with a Theme, or Big Idea, like Love or Family or Sense of Place....and from there we add on skills and techniques to support the realization of that idea.
