The Loudoun County School Board is the official policy-making body of the Loudoun County Public Schools. It operates under the laws adopted by the General Assembly of Virginia and consistent with regulations adopted by the Virginia Board of Education. School Board members are elected every four years in the November general election with one member elected for each of the eight electoral districts and one member elected at-large. Voters chose Loudoun County’s seventh elected School Board in November 2019 and the members took office January 1, 2020.

Citizen Participation in School Board Meetings

Thank you for engaging with the School Board through the Public Comment process. The School Board welcomes comments from Loudoun County residents and believes that strong community engagement and outreach are important components of a successful school system.

Beginning with the September 8, 2020, School Board meeting, in-person public comment will be accepted in the School Board Room at the LCPS Administration Building, 21000 Education Court, Ashburn, Va.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and consistent with public-health mitigation recommendations and Gov. Ralph Northam’s Executive Order #53, anyone entering the LCPS Administration Building is required to wear a face covering while in the building, including while making public comments at a School Board meeting. Speakers will be asked to stand in line in the lobby of the building with a minimum of 6 feet of separation from other members of the public or staff who may be present. Speakers will be admitted to the Board Room to make comments one at a time, and will be asked to leave the room immediately after making their comments. Speakers can remain in the building to listen to the meeting after commenting; meetings are also live-streamed on LCPS.org and televised. LCPS staff members will be on hand to assist in this process.

The audio portion of the meeting will be played live over the public-address system in the hallway.

Citizens may sign-up electronically to make public comment by visiting the Speaking to the School Board webpage, or by contacting the Superintendent's Office at 571-252-1020. An email may be sent to public.comment@lcps.org in which case the sender will receive a reply with a link to the online Citizen Participation/Public Comment registration form for their completion. All speakers must sign-up prior to 5:00 p.m. the day of the School Board meeting. You will be asked to provide your name, address and telephone number, subject matter, and organization represented, if applicable.

"No contact" walk-in registration will also be accepted in the lobby of the Administration Building, 21000 Education Court, Ashburn, Va., starting 30 minutes prior to the meeting until 5 minutes before the start of the meeting.

DECORUM: Per School Board Policy 2520, the civility, decorum and respect for the functioning and dignity of the School Board shall be maintained at all times and in all communications. As a result, the Chair will not approve comments that are breaches of civility, decorum, the functions and dignity of the School Board or of the rules set forth in School Board Policy 2520. The Chair reserves the right to have live public speakers muted if civility and/or decorum are breached.
