Mrs. Cindy Simmons

I am excited to be starting my 25th year in education and 4th year teaching scholars and coaching teachers at Cardinal Ridge, as an Instructional Reading Specialist. My previous teaching experience includes 4 years as a 1st grade teacher and 1 year as a kindergarten teacher in Warren County Public Schools, VA and 17 years as a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach in Frederick County Public Schools, VA where I was awarded teacher of the year at Evendale Elementary School in 2012.

I was born in NJ and have 2 sisters younger than me. My family moved to Stephens City, VA when I was 10 years old and in 5th grade. I currently still reside there with my husband of 25 years and 2 of my 4 children. In my spare time I enjoy reading, traveling, listening to live music, and spending time with family and friends, especially my 1 year-old granddaughter:)

I received my undergraduate degree from Shenandoah University in Psychology with a certificate to teach in elementary school and a Master of Science in Education with a reading specialist endorsement from Shenandoah University. I am also trained in Reading Recovery. My goal as a Reading Specialist is to motivate and teach scholars literacy strategies and skills so that they become lifelong learners and enjoy reading and writing. My goal is also to coach and mentor teachers so that they are successful literacy educators for their scholars. I look forward to watching teachers and scholars SOAR to their greatest potential at Cardinal Ridge.
