Mrs. Cindy Simmons

Mrs. Cindy Simmons is excited to be starting her 24th year in education and her 3rd year teaching scholars and coaching teachers at Cardinal Ridge as a Reading Specialist. Her previous teaching experience includes 4 years as a 1st grade teacher and kindergarten teacher in Warren County Public Schools, VA and 17 years as a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach in Frederick County Public Schools, VA where she was awarded teacher of the year at Evendale Elementary School in 2012.

She was born in NJ and moved to Stephens City, VA when she was 10 years old and currently still resides there with her husband of 24 years and 3 of her 4 children. In her spare time she enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and listening to live music.

Mrs. Simmons educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Shenandoah University in Psychology with a certification to teach in elementary school and a Master of Science in Education from Shenandoah University. She is also a trained Reading Recovery teacher. Her goal as a Reading Specialist is to motivate and teach scholars literacy strategies and skills so that they become lifelong learners and enjoy reading and writing. Her goal is also to coach and mentor teachers so that they are successful literacy educators for their scholars. She looks forward to watching teachers and scholars SOAR to their greatest potential.
