Members of our after school YMCA program assist with caring for a hydroponic garden in our cafeteria. Students collect yield data from each plant, as well as follow standardized procedures for growing the plants hydroponically. Hydroponic systems are set up in the cafeteria to promote nutrition, and the goal was to involve them in reflection and assessment of the project and to obtain qualitative data about their eating habits. They planted cucumber, white radish, tomatoes, and different kind of lettuce. The harvested veggies will be used to make a salad with the help of a chef at the end of the program.
