Abbreviated Secondary School Attendance Zone Change Process

Dulles North Area - Planning Zones DN45, DN45.2, and DN45.3

ADOPTED - Dulles North Secondary School Attendance Zone Change

At their meeting on January 22, 2019, the School Board voted to change the middle and high school attendance zones for Planning Zones DN45, DN45.2, and DN45.3 - to Eagle Ridge Middle School and Briar Woods High School.  The attendance zone changes will take effect in fall 2019, with the start of the 2019-2020 academic year.  As outlined in School Board Policy 8160 and by School Board action, families of current grade 7 students and current grade 9-11 students will be surveyed for interest in their student remaining at his/her current school of assignment (Stone Hill Middle School or Rock Ridge High School, respectively) "in order to provide greater educational continuity."

The Loudoun County School Board has initiated an abbreviated secondary school attendance zone change process for three Dulles North area planning zones – Planning Zones DN45, DN45.2, and DN45.3.

These three planning zones include the Denton Terrace (DN45.3), Loudoun Place (DN45), Quail Pond Estates (DN45.2), Station View (DN45.3), and Vantage Pointe (DN45) subdivisions. Residences on Ghazwa Square (DN45.3), in the Moorefield Station development, are also included in this abbreviated secondary school attendance zone process.

In establishing an attendance zone for Waxpool Elementary School (opening fall, 2019), the School Board changed the elementary school attendance zone for children residing in Planning Zones DN45, DN45.2, and DN45.3 – from Moorefield Station Elementary School to Mill Run Elementary School. The elementary school attendance zone change will take effect with the start of the 2019-2020 academic year.

The School Board is now considering an adjustment to the middle and high school attendance zones for these same communities  to allow children to advance to the same secondary schools as all other Mill Run Elementary School students.

Rather than advancing to Stone Hill Middle School and Rock Ridge High School, the School Board is considering an attendance zone change to now have children residing in Planning Zones DN45, DN45.2, and DN45.3 attend Eagle Ridge Middle School and Briar Woods High School with the start of the 2019-2020 academic year.
