  • What is the purpose of the Family Life Education Program in Loudoun County Public Schools?

    In response to the requirements of Section 22.1-207.1 of the Code of Virginia, Loudoun County Public Schools has implemented a comprehensive, sequential, abstinence-based, age-appropriate Family Life Education curriculum grades 4-10.

    The Loudoun County Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum is designed to:

    • Emphasize the importance of family
    • Stress the need for individuals to make decisions appropriate to values established within their families
    • Assist students of all ages in accepting the responsibilities for and consequences of their behavior
    • Encourage child-parent discussion to foster mutual support between the home and the school
    • Stress the value of life and the multiplicity of opportunities available to young people.

  • In PVUE, where can I find FLE Instructional Materials for viewing?

    Parents and guardians have the right to review the family life education program offered by their school division, including written and audio-visual educational materials used in the program. 

    To preview instructional materials which will be utilized during Family Life Education instruction, please do the following:

    • Go to the ParentVUE (PVUE) log-in webpage, where you will see an LCPS District Announcement pertaining to the Preview of FLE Materials.
    • Log into ParentVUE (PVUE).
    • Click on the “Resources and Opportunities” tab in the PVUE menu.
    • Click on the Family Life Education link, which will redirect you to a PVUE Google Drive.
      • Folders contained within this Google Drive are entitled:
        • Elementary
        • Middle
        • High School
    • Click on the grade level that applies to your student(s).
      • Subfolders will be contained within the grade level folder for each grade.
      • An overview of the lessons, activities, and an FLE Parent Handbook are included in each folder.

  • Is there a FLE Parent/Guardian Handbook I can use to discuss more sensitive subject-matter with my child?

    The FLE Parent Handbook is accessible to parents / guardians in ParentVUE (PVUE). To utilize the materials provided for parents / guardians to discuss the more sensitive subject-matter with their child as they see fit, please do the following:

    • Go to the ParentVUE (PVUE) log-in webpage.
    • Log into ParentVUE (PVUE).
    • Click on the “Resources and Opportunities” tab in the PVUE menu.
    • Click on the Family Life Education link, which will redirect you to a PVUE Google Drive.
      • Folders contained within this Google Drive are entitled:
        • Elementary
        • Middle
        • High School
    • Click on the grade level that applies to your student(s).
      • Subfolders will be contained within the grade level folder for each grade.
      • An overview of the FLE Specialist-led lessons and activities, and an FLE Parent/Guardian Handbook are included in each folder.

  • Opting-Out of FLE Instruction – How do I opt-out my child and officially notify their school?

    Parents and guardians also have the right to excuse their child from all or part of family life education instruction.

    • Log into ParentVUE (PVUE), select your student, click "Student Info" then "Edit Info"
    • Scroll down to the section titled "Student Notifications and Permissions"
    • Under "Allow Participation in Family Life Education,"
      • Change the status to say "no" if you do not want your student to participate in FLE.
    • Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "save changes."
    • This will update the system - thank you!

  • Family Life Education Parent Preview Days

    If parents/guardians have further questions after viewing the materials in PVUE or would like to view the materials in-person, the FLE specialists will be available by appointment only from 11:00am - 6:00pm in the following rooms listed below at the LCPS Administration Building.

    • Monday, August 28, 2023 - Room 104A
    • Tuesday, August 29, 2023 - Room 104A
    • Wednesday, August 30, 2023 - Room 104A

    IMPORTANT INFO: When you arrive at the Administration Building, you will be buzzed into the building by showing a photo ID and checking in at the front desk. There will be a staff member in the lobby to greet you and guide you to the meeting location.
