The Theatre Arts program at LCHS offers students a broad range of opportunities and experiences. Theatre Arts I provides a broad overview of theatre with a heavy dose of performance. Theatre Arts II delves further into the acting experience with a focus on classical work, play writing, and masks and movement. Theatre Arts III/IV provides opportunities in performance, production, and directing. We also now offer classes in Technical Theatre as well, where students learn through hands on experience what's involved in preparing a production for performance. The extra curricular theatre program at LCHS offers ample opportunities for students to put the skills they've learned in class to use, as we produce major productions in the fall and spring, a student director festival in February, and a Black Box production in March. We compete in the Virginia High School League One-Act Play Competition every fall and traditionally show very well. And the improv comedy team, Improvasaurus, gives students a chance to both perform and stretch their acting muscles with several performances every year. The hope in the theatre program is that during their four years here students will have the opportunity to participate either casually or seriously in a little bit of every thing theatre has to offer: from Broadway musicals to intimate dramas; from Shakespearean classics to original plays; and from children's theatre to improv comedy. a full spectrum of theatre experiences are available from the theatre program at LCHS!
