    Meet Mrs. Dickerson

Welcome to First Grade! I am excited to join the Lincoln Elementary team. Last year I had the privilege to fill the role of long term substitute in third grade here at Lincoln.  I fell in love with the supportive community and hard-working staff. Even though we were rooms away, through reading buddies, I got to know this upcoming Kindergarten class a little bit. They are a bright and fun bunch that I look forward to spending more time with.

In the past, I have taught seventh grade, eighth grade, sixth grade and kindergarten.  Once I got down to kindergarten I have never gone back; I love the primary grades!  I’m happy to be in first grade, and was able to get in that mindset while doing a long-term substitute job at Waterford and the end of this past school year.

During my career, I have completed my Master’s of Science in Elementary Reading and Literacy.  I also attended the Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project Summer Institute at Columbia University in New York City, which gave me a wealth of knowledge and ideas to implement a Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop in the primary grades.

I am a Texan and a proud graduate of Texas A&M University. My husband and I have three children: Ansley, a pre-kindergartner, and two boys at Round Hill: Joshua a second grader in the Autism program, and Grayson, a fourth grader.  We moved from Reston a little over a year ago and enjoy being a part of the Western Loudoun community. We love college football and spending time outdoors. I am sure you will see our gang around town!

Since becoming a parent, I feel even more qualified to teach your children because I know what it is like to entrust your child to a school every day. I think teaching is absolutely the best job anyone can have: challenging, rewarding, always- changing. I look forward to our partnership this year.
