our 2017 Summer Stage production of
A Short History of RiverHawk Productions
Since its inception in the cold winter of 2012, RiverHawk Productions has been dedicated to bringing northern Virginia the absolute highest quality shows (at the middle school level) in our entire nation.  Over our past five shows: Seussical (2012), Beauty & the Beast (2013), Back to the 80s (Summer Stage 2013), Shrek (2014), Tarzan (2015), The Little Mermaid (2016), and Dracula (Summer Stage 2016), and Mary Poppins (2017) 1,400 students have brought audiences of over 25,500 people, full Broadway versions of your favorite family shows (all through the talent of the most incredible kids to have ever existed - the students of Belmont Ridge Middle School).  Winner of 20 national titles (6 for Shrek, 3 for Tarzan, and 11 for Little Mermaid), and nominated for 25 others (11 for Shrek, 5 for Tarzan, and 9 for Little Mermaid), RiverHawk Productions is ecstatic for another summer stage!
This summer we (like summers of the past), we move away from our Disney themed shows to bring audiences a more mature and nuanced theatre experience.  Your family will join Crybaby and his band of jamboree-ing misfits "the drapes" as they rock and roll, fall in and out of trouble, and attempt to bridge the gap between a group of teens who feels "nobody gets [them]" and their "squeaky clean" "square" peers.  All the while they learn that even the adults around them have "done something wrong once" and that through all their teenage "misery" things could "be a whole lot worse." Everyone may seem to have a "screw loose" but in the end they all learn that "nothing bad will ever happen again."
You will forget you are sitting in a middle school auditorium with gorgeous costumes, professionally designed and engineered moving sets, lighting and sound effects from our state of the art boards, epic dance choreography, and of course the unrivaled talent of our cast and crew - this is a production that you and your family will not want to miss!
Come be a part of a tradition that has been changing the lives of middle-schoolers and their families for six years.  We CANNOT WAIT to make it seven.
The mission of RiverHawk Productions has always been to create an equitable and engaging environment of theatrical excellence where students are encouraged to excel as actors, singers, dancers, performers, stage/tech crews, instrumentalists, but most of all, as people.  No matter what your experience, the musical is the place for you (or your child).  Above the art, this is a place where students make strong friendships, gain self-confidence, and feel proud that they are a part of a production that is far larger than themselves.  Nurturing your child artistically, academically, and socially in a safe and energetic atmosphere has always been my top priority.  I look forward to working with your children.  It truly is a privilege.
They are some of the absolute best people I have ever met.
The honor and pleasure continues to be mine,
    Jason P. Augustowski, M.Ed.
