PROPEL Academy is an after school program where fourth and fifth grade students get to participate in STEM-related activities. Students work both independently and collaboratively and learn to solve problems, code, and create through a variety of mediums. They also keep a portfolio and submit daily reflections and practice communication skills by sharing out their ideas and creations in different ways. This semester students practiced computational thinking, solved Rubiks cubes, created a knee brace to help support a child with an injured knee, programmed Edison Robots and designed a candy dispenser with them, and explored the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and designed products made of reusable materials to help reduce the GPGP. At the end of the first semester, students held a celebration to showcase their work to parents and staff members.
