The Daily Physical Education Grade is based on the standards of learning listed below:
Motor Skill Development (15 points)
Standards: 9.1 The student will…
9.1 a) demonstrate proficiency and refinement in locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills through appropriate activities.
9.1 c) Apply the concepts of levers, force, motion, and rotation in a variety of activities.
9.1 f.) demonstrate competency in one or more specialized skills in health-related fitness activities.
Social Development (5 points)
Standard: 9.4 The student will…
a.) demonstrate proper etiquette, respect for others, integrity, and teamwork while engaging in a variety of activities.
e.) Apply communication skills and strategies that promote positive team/group dynamics.
g.) Apply best practices for participating safely in physical activity setting. Including: injury prevention, use of equipment and implementation of rules.
Grading for Classroom:
- Formative assessments will be used in the classroom setting. They will only be checked for completion, not accuracy. The maximum value of a formative assessment will be 20 points.
- Summative assessments will count for most of the classroom grade. Summative assessments will range in value from 20 points to 100 points. These can include tests, quizzes, take-home and in-class projects. Rubrics will be provided for projects.
- Homework: Teachers may assign homework during classroom instruction.
- Homework is expected to be turned in on time and will be graded for completion.
- Late work:
- If an assignment is not complete at the beginning of the class period it is due, a student has the option of turning it in late with points deducted.
PE- - Grading
In grade nine, students complete the transition from modified versions of movement forms to more complex applications across all types of physical activities. They demonstrate the ability to use basic skills, strategies, and tactics. Students demonstrate more specialized knowledge in identifying and applying key movement concepts and principles. They assess their skill performance and develop a personal physical activity program aimed at improving it. They apply their understanding of personal fitness to lifelong participation in physical activity. Students demonstrate independence of others in making choices, respect all others, avoid conflict but are able to resolve it appropriately, and use elements of fair play and ethical behavior in physical activity settings. Students demonstrate the ability to plan for and improve components of fitness and achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of personal fitness.
Health- - Grading
Students in grade nine integrate a variety of health concepts, skills, and behaviors to plan for their personal, lifelong health goals. These include awareness and consequences of risky behaviors, disease prevention, overall wellness, and identification of community health resources. Students demonstrate competence in their knowledge and skills. They see themselves as having an active role in creating a healthy lifestyle for themselves as individuals, for their families, and for the larger community.
