Earth Science

Welcome to Earth Science.

Please allow me to tell you a little about me.  I have been teaching at Broad Run for 22 years.  When I first started teaching here my name was Mrs. Bartley.  Six years ago, I got remarried and now most students call me Mrs. B.  I have 5 children (2 mine and 3 by marriage), 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

For 21 of the 22 years I have taught here, I have taught Earth Science.  My teaching style is mostly hands-on, with some lecture thrown in when needed.  Students will be using their new computers often in this class, so I suggest they be charged every evening.  Students will not be given a textbook in this class.  However, they will have access to the on-line version by following the directions on my page on the Broad Run Web Site.  Additionally, there will are a class set available in the classroom.

To make the class run smoothly I have set up a google classroom for your child to obtain copies of assignments and to turn in most assignments.  To help both your child and you, I have also set up a remind.com classroom. To enroll in remind please text the code to 81010   I will send out notices for test dates, homework due dates, and if I have asked students to bring something in with them.

Below are the codes needed for your child to enroll in both google classroom and Remind.com.

Supplies for this class include a spiral bound notebook for taking notes.  There have been several studies that prove students retain more be handwriting notes than they do typing them.  Other things that could be used throughout the year will include index cards (to create to study for SOLs), glue sticks, colored pencils, highlighters, pens and pencils.  My suggestion is to have these items in a pencil case they carry in their backpack, as I am sure these items will be helpful for other classes.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to email me at gale.baker@lcps.org
