Ms. Katharine Smorodin
Ms. Smorodin is so excited to continue working with the class of 2028 as they take on 8th grade this year! This will be her sixth year at River Bend. Here is a little bit about Ms. Smorodin! She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from James Madison University. During her undergraduate coursework, she minored in Family Studies and Exceptional Education. Ms. Smorodin also has a Masters of Education in School Counseling from JMU.
Ms. Smorodin was born and raised in Fairfax Station, and now lives in Arlington. In her free time, she loves to travel, play with dogs, and spend time with friends and family. She is a big DC sports fan, especially the Capitals, DC United, & Nationals! Ms. Smordin is also a huge JMU football fan-Go Dukes!
As a school counselor, Ms. Smorodin will support students’ academic, social/emotional, and career development through classroom counseling lessons, SchooLinks lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling. She is here to help students develop skills and strategies to be successful in school, at home, and in their community. Ms. Smorodin believes in helping students become competent in responsible decision making, relationship skills, self-management, self-awareness, and social awareness. Additionally, she will also facilitate parent/teacher conferences when needed.
