Virtual Loudoun
  • Virtual Virtual Loudoun Online Learning is a supplemental, self-paced, asynchronous program that offers instructor-led online courses to secondary students that are full-year courses offered in a condensed term. Courses are delivered using the Schoology learning management system using content aligned to the Standards of Learning to offer new educational opportunities to students. Students actively engage in online discussions, submit documents electronically, and meet synchronously online with teachers and students as needed. Students should expect, on average, to dedicate 140 hours to complete a 1 credit course within the term period.
    Virtual Loudoun courses are not available to middle school students during Terms 1 and 2. They may enroll in one (1) course in Term 3-Spring/Summer Session. Available courses are listed in the chart below. Please see our Term Dates page for start/ end dates and registration deadlines for this term.

    Term 3: Spring /Summer - 10-week term

    • Registration begins on Monday, April 17, 2023, and closes on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
    • Classes begin on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, and end on Friday, August 4, 2023.
    • The last day in Term 3 to drop a Virtual Loudoun course is June 23, 2023--no indication of course on the student's transcript.
    • Students may withdraw from a virtual course between June 24 and July 14 with a Withdraw Fail (WF) if the current grade, determined by progress measured by the course pacing guide, is below 60. Students with a current grade of 60 or higher, determined by progress measured by the course pacing guide, may withdraw between June 24 and August 4 with a Withdraw Pass (WP). Withdrawals will have no impact on GPA, but will be indicated on the student’s high school transcript.
    • For all students, June 23, 2023, is the last day to pay for a Virtual Loudoun course or request a refund.

    Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

    • A rising 6th grader may not take Math 7 in LCPS summer as a new course.
    • Students are not permitted to audit Virtual Loudoun courses.
