Teen substance abuse or addiction is the origin of the largest preventable and most costly public health problem in the United States today. While the percentage of teenage drug abuse has declined since 2002, half of all new drug users are still under the age of 18. According to a study conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse in 2010, about 21% of teens have used some form of illegal drug by 8th grade. That number increases to almost 50% by the 12th grade. The goal of the Addiction Center is to connect those with addictions to the help they need to put their lives back together.
