Congratulations to Edison House for having the most House points and having a dance party today!  Great job!!

Good luck to all the Running Bears tomorrow!!  Also, look for the “Green Team’s” plant stand at the Hometown Festival.  First graders planted yellow squash.

We said a fond farewell to Mrs. O’Hara today.  She leaves us to be the principal at Legacy Elementary.

    Math News

We finished measurement on Friday.  We will spend the next two weeks reviewing and expanding on content that was taught.  Please continue to practice the basic addition and subtraction facts daily to achieve fluency.  You can do this with flash cards or by using Reflex math.

Things you can review at home:  counting money; the basic addition and subtraction facts to 10; telling time to the hour and half hour on an analog clock; labeling the tens and ones in a 2-digit number

    Language Arts

We will continue the unit on “character study”.    As you read with your child nightly, I would encourage you to take a step back and let your child “be the boss” and try to figure out the word.  Give clues if you need to, but don’t just tell the word.  Please remember your child should read at least 15 minutes a night.  In class, we try to read 20 minutes every day.

We reviewed how to write a correct sentence this week and how to write a personal narrative story.  The students were reminded that sentences need capital letters at the beginning and punctuation at the end.  Also, a sentence needs to stay on one topic and make sense.

No spelling words for the last two weeks of school.

    Content News

We will continue working on maps.  This would be a good time to make sure your child knows his or her entire address.  Some of the students did not know what town they live in or what street they live on.

We will also be starting a unit on force and motion.

Recess and PE Appropriate Shoes and a Sweater

Please remember to wear (or bring) shoes that are appropriate for recess and PE.

Also, as it gets warmer outside it gets colder inside.  Some of the students may want to bring in a lightweight sweater to leave in the classroom to wear when they get cold.

    Recess and PE Appropriate Shoes

With the spring and summer-like weather upon us, I’d like to remind you that we have recess every day and PE three times a week.  During these activities, it is important that the students wear appropriate shoes for their safety.  Flip-flops and sandals are super cute, but not the safest to wear while running.  Students can bring a pair of shoes to change into.  Thanks for helping with this.
