Family and Consumer Sciences 8, Teen Living, is a thirty-six week program which provides a contemporary approach to the development of skills that are critical to everyday life. The curriculum helps prepare students for taking on responsibilities in their lives. The focus is on improving self-identity, sharpening communication and social skills, increasing academic achievement, and becoming oriented to the world of work.
    Through a practical problem-solving approach students learn to critically examine concerns, seek solutions, and solve problems in caring ways.
    Various concepts explored in seventh grade will be expanded for in-depth study.
    Students will have the opportunity to explore concepts and practice skills related to nutrition, entrepreneurship, child care, consumerism, personal grooming, money management, food science, career interests, environmental issues and many more. 
    Various concepts explored in sixth and seventh grade will be expanded for in-depth study.
    Instruction in Teen Living incorporates and references Virginia Standards of Learning. It also emphasizes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) where appropriate.
    Family and Consumer Science 8th grade Teen Living class is an elective. There is a $20.00 lab fee associated with this class so that students may have hands on experiences in the labs with cooking and sewing. If you need financial assistance, please contact me.
