Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Elsa Duenas

Welcome to Another Exciting Year of Language and Academic Learning!

This is Mrs. Duenas speaking. I am so proud of continuing making part of the wonderful River Bend family. This is my fifth year of teaching here at the Raven Nation, and my 20th plus year of being an English Learners (EL) teacher. I am originally from Colombia, in South America where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Languages and Linguistics, and where I initiated my teaching career with elementary and secondary students, as well as extension courses at the university level for about a decade. Prior to teaching here in Northern Virginia, I taught Spanish Literacy to middle schoolers in North Carolina for 10 years. I also had the fortune of teaching English as a Second Language in San Diego CA, as a Fulbright Exchange teacher. In 2012 I completed graduate studies at American College of Education (ACE), receiving my M.Ed. diploma in Curriculum and Instruction with ESL specialization. Two years later (2014), I obtained the National Board Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification.  I’m a long-life learner and I’m always in search of professional growth to become a better teacher so I can serve you better. I love my family and enjoy spending time with them. I'll give my best as a person and as a professional to help YOU, my student, succeed. We are a TEAM!

You’ve got my word: Together Everyone Achieves More!
