• Library Overview

Kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grades have weekly 30-minute library classes.  First and second grades have weekly 50-minute library classes.

The first part of library class consists of direct instruction focusing on library skills and/or enriching classroom content. During the last part of library class, students have time to find and check out books, practice skills taught during the library lesson, or read independently.

Additionally, classroom teachers may schedule “flex” time in the library.  During this time, Mrs. Rosen and the classroom teacher will co-teach lessons relating to research, general curriculum topics, and educational technology.

    Book Checkout Policy

    • Kindergarten--1 Book
    • 1st & 2nd Grades---2 Books
    • 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grades--3 Books

Students may borrow books for two weeks at a time and can renew a book twice, as long as other patrons have not requested the book.

Tolbert has an open library policy.  Students do not need to wait for their “library day” to return or check out books. At the classroom teacher’s discretion, students may come to the library on any school day/time for book circulation.

We do not charge fines for overdue books; however, students are responsible for the replacement of books they have either lost or damaged.  Parents may send in a check made to Tolbert Elementary for the cost of replacement; alternatively, parents may purchase and send in a new replacement hard cover copy of the same book.
