    Mentor Requirements and Responsibilities:

    • Completion of electronic application (If you have difficulty logging in to complete the application please e-mail Bent.Ferrell@lcps.org)
    • Approval of current administrator
    • Continuing contract status
    • Participation in professional development
      • Applicants who have never served as a LCPS mentor must attend a summer training session.  Sessions will be available on My Learning Plan
      •  Experienced mentors will attend a one-hour refresher conducted by the lead mentor
    • Participation in first meeting with protégés Monday, August 13, 2018; 12:30-3:30 
    • Meet with protégé(s) a MINIMUM of one hour each month outside of contract time
    • Support for the protege(s) may include: orientation to the school, introduction to curriculum and resources, planning purposeful lessons, establishing classroom routines, and classroom visits
    • Submit electronic documentation of time supporting protégés
    • Alert appropriate administrator to concerns and issues

     

    Mentors must have the ability to:

    • communicate with adults
    • recognize and respond to needs of new teachers
    • facilitate discussions to empower the new teachers

     

    Mentors must have knowledge of:

    • grade/subject content and SOL's
    • instructional skills and strategies
    • LCPS vision
    • classroom management skills
    • school-based initiatives 

     

    Compensation:

    • Mentors will receive an annual stipend of $800 for one protégé. Mentors will be compensated an additional $100 for each additional protege.  Stipends are paid each semester.
    • Mentors are eligible to receive a total of 90 recertification points per licensure cycle. One point per clock hour will be awarded each year for documented mentoring service as outlined under option 6.
     
    Selected applicants will be notified by the building's lead mentor prior to the start of the school year
