Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor of Science Master of Education National Board Certified Teacher

Mrs. Akers

Hello, Eagles!

I am so excited to be here at Emerick Elementary School this year!  I grew up not far from here in the Shenandoah Valley and earned both my Bachelor of Science (Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies) and Master of Education (Exceptional/Special Education) degrees from James Madison University.  Go Dukes!!  In 2017, I achieved National Board Certification in the area of Exceptional Education.  It's hard for me to believe, but this will be my nineteenth year of teaching!  I began my career in Warren County as a general education teacher before switching to special education and have worked with all grade levels from kindergarten through sixth.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I am blessed to be married to my best friend and we have the most adorable, amazing kids (though I may be a little biased!) - Grayson, who turned 6 over the summer, and Addilynn, who will turn 2 at the end of September.  When time allows, I also enjoy visiting new places, eating delicious food, and going for a nice walk with our German Shepherd puppy, Bear.

I look forward to working with Emerick's students, families, and staff this year.  By working together, we will see our students grow as human beings and as learners and do amazing things.

Let's spread kindness and make this a great year!  Let the journey begin!
