Hi Coyote Families!  My name is Dayna Helfer and I am a first grade teacher at Rosa Lee Carter Elementary!  I'm proud to be a coyote!  I'm excited for the new school year and look forward to meeting all my new first grade coyotes! I look forward to starting my 26th year of teaching.  I am fortunate to have taught first, second and third grades in my years of teaching.  Although I have loved them all, first grade truly has my heart! I earned my B.A. in Liberal Studies/Education from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego and my Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Reading/Curriculum and Instruction from the University of LaVerne in Los Angeles.

My family and I moved to Virginia 2 years ago from sunny San Diego, California.  I am married to my wonderful husband, Aaron and have 3 beautiful, school aged children.  We have loved living here on the east coast and enjoy exploring all the sights and history the area has to offer.  We've even gotten to enjoy the vastly different weather and loved our "snow days" we have gotten since moving here!

I am looking forward to our first day of school and seeing all my new friends.  Don't forget to follow our class on social media.  There you will find posts about all the wonderful things we are learning about in room 11!  I can't wait to meet you all!

Our classroom is always looking for materials to enhance learning!  Currently, we are trying to create STEM bins for our room, as well as add to our collection of games for rainy day recess!  Check out our Room 11 Amazon Wish List to see how you can help contribute these items to our classroom!  Thank you for your help in making Room 11 a great place to learn & explore!
