Hello Jaguar Families!
I'm Rebecca Glaab and 2023-2024 will be my seventh year as a Jaguar teaching at Sterling Elementary. Once again this year, I am excited to co-teach with Ms. Allison Oliver.
I have been an educator of English to speakers of other languages for more than 25 years. I've taught adults, college kids and even Egyptian math teachers! However, my favorite students have always been children. I worked as an EL teacher for 3 1/2 years at an elementary school in Hyattsville, Maryland and as a 2nd grade classroom teacher for 2 years in Vilnius, Lithuania.
I originally graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in English. I married my college sweetheart and he became a U.S. diplomat. That meant that we moved A LOT! Because of his career, I have lived in many countries: Mexico, Italy, Ecuador, Italy (again!), Malaysia, Lithuania and Belgium. Along the way, I learned to speak both Spanish and Italian.
When we were living in Ecuador, I discovered that I loved teaching, so I returned to graduate school at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and earned a Master's degree in Instructional Systems Development / Bilingual Education.
We are now permanently settled in Herndon, Virginia. Our daughter, Julia, is starting her second year at the University of Virginia. Our son, Luca, is a UVA graduate now working as an educational researcher.
Learning another language is difficult but also so rewarding. Over the years, I have watched my students go on to achieve amazing things. I feel so privileged to be a guide as they move along this journey to achieve their highest goals.
I look forward to getting to know all my students and their parents. Please call or email if you have questions, concerns or even if you would just like to say hello!
