• The Broad Run Theatre and Performing Arts Department would like to extend our theatre students an opportunity for a scholarship.
     Please note, materials are time sensitive.
     

    Dr. Markley Theatre Arts Scholarship

    Presented by the Performing Arts Department

     

    This scholarship is intended to reward a graduating senior(s) who have supported the Theatre department throughout their tenure at BRHS.  It is intended for those who show their commitment by participating in numerous productions.  This scholarship opportunity will be awarded to a graduating senior(s)—either male or female, however, in the case of two recipients—one would be a male student and one would be a female student.

     

    Scholarship Award

    The scholarship will be approximately $500 given to each graduating senior, but may vary based on ticket sales for the student-directed one-acts.

     

    Scholarship Requirements

    ·        Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher

    ·        Participation in 4 or more main stage productions (onstage or backstage)  

    o   Fall plays and spring musicals will count, but 1-Act shows will not

    o   Inducted member of the Theatre Department, minimum participation in 4 mainstage performances,
    or completion of Theatre classes 1-4, or 4 years of Tech Theatre

     

    ·        Two (2) Recommendations (not mandatory, but helpful)
    One (1) recommendation must come from a teacher  |
    One (1) recommendation must come from an outside source
     Outside sources could be a community leader, coach, group sponsor or supervisor, etc.

      Personal Statement

    o   Students will express what Broad Run High School Spartan Theatre has given to them in 300 words or fewer. 

    One may include whether they intend to continue work in theatre or how they may use what they have learned here in the future.

     

    Scholarship Selection Committee and Procedure

    Scholarship applicants will be reviewed by all faculty and administrative members of the Performing Arts Department and will meet and vote to choose the recipient(s) of this scholarship(s).  Each applicant will be informed of his or her status upon the department’s decision.  Applications are due ONE week prior to the Musical Theatre Review

    THIS YEAR, by Monday 5/21!   Awarded 5/24
