• 6th Grade Information for 2024-2025 School Year

    Welcome rising 6th graders and parents! We are happy and excited to have you as part of our Harper Park Family next school year! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's current counselor or teacher. 

    HPMS 6th Grade Team: Mr. Demorest will be the counselor for all general education students in 6th grade and Mrs. Harper is the counselor for any student, 6th-8th, that has an IEP. The 6th grade dean for the 2024-2025 school year will be Ms. Alexis Denson Glen.     Important Dates and Events

    Instrument Try Out Nights

    Instrument try out nights are not mandatory, but are for students who are considering taking a Band or Strings instrument as their music class in 6th grade.  Other choices for music are Chorus 6 and Music Lab 6-these do not require a 'try out night'.  All Instrument Try Out Nights begin at 6:00pm at Harper Park on the following dates: 

    Tolbert:January 10, 2024

    Cool Spring-January 11, 2024

    Frances Hazel Reid, Balls Bluff, Frederick Douglass-January 17, 2024.

    ***If you are not able to attend on the night your child's school is assigned, you are welcome to attend on a different night***

    Rising 6th Parent Information Night:  February 15, 2024.  At 5:30 there will be a Spectrum meeting (students currently in Futura), and also a panel of current 6th grade parents will be in the auditorium for a Q and A-this is not a mandatory portion of the evening but all are invited to attend.  The main event will begin at 6:00pm in the Auditorium. This evening is for parents who want to learn information about the curriculum in Math, English, Science, History, PE, Computer Applications, and Art in 6th grade.  You will also hear from the Administration and Counselor. 

    5th Grade Visits to Harper Park

    All 5th graders from our feeder elementary schools will take a field trip to Harper Park during the school day.  The dates for these visits are:

    Balls Bluff and Frances Hazel Reid-March 12, 2024

    Tolbert-March 13, 2024

    Cool Spring, Frederick Douglass-March 15, 2024

    Course Selection Process

    Parents will receive a Permission Click on February 23, 2024 stating what classes their child has been recommended for by their current teachers, as well as what music class they have selected.  Should you have questions about teacher recommendations or the music class they selected, please contact their current teacher directly to discuss.

    Parents can learn more about all middle school classes offered in LCPS in the 2024-2025 Program of Studies

    No course changes will be made after April 30, 2024, so if you have a question/concern about one of your child's courses, please have the conversation with their current teachers as early as possible so we can be sure to make any changes prior to April 30, 2024. 

    Storm The Park 2024- All rising 6th graders are invited to attend this fun-filled day on June 20, 2024. Students will participate in a variety of engaging activities designed to get them acquainted with Harper Park, lockers, meet a variety of teachers and make friends from other schools.  The cost is $50 if you register before May 11, 2024 and will be $65 from May 12-June 19.  There are two different payment portals:

    There is also a sheet with QR Codes you can use for both portal if that is more convenient for you.
