• Dear Parents,

I would like to provide you some activities that you can use at home to review the spelling words.

Introduce the sort: You pass out the sort to your child and have him/her cut and sort the words based on the spelling pattern taught in school today.

Practice sort and write it: Students get out their bag of words (which they stored in a safe location on Monday) and sort them again. Ask your child to read the words and declare their categories (such as short a and a-consonant-e).

Word Hunt: Students make a chart and label each column with the spelling rules. Have your child read a book and add words that follow the pattern to the correct column.

Practice Test: Student does a blind written sorts with parent.  You check the paper together and call attention to challenging words.
