Dean of Special EducationShannon Mahiai
Greetings Parents and Families of John Champe High School:
My name is Shannon Mahiai and I’m extremely happy to join the staff of John Champe High School as the new Dean of Special Education. I’m very passionate about education and I look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality high school experience. As the parent of 3 children ages 7, 8 and 10, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher and I believe that by working together, we can make sure your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met.
Before joining John Champe High School, I served in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles over the past 14 years both in the United Stated and in Tanzania. Some of the roles I have held include self- contained special education teacher, academic support teacher, special education designee, and principal intern. My academic background includes a Bachelor’s in Rehabilitation Services from Penn State University, Master’s in Special Education from East Carolina University, Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership concentration in Special Education from Jones International University, and currently ABD with my PhD in Educational Administration and Leadership from American College of Education.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve your families in this role! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.
