• Girls in G.E.A.R.© (Guiding Engineering, Aerospace, & Robotics) Club is comprised of current 4th and 5th grade HCA scholars who want to help close the gender gap in STEAM.  Girls in GEAR© provides engaging and meaningful cross-curricular exploratory activities that encourage science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) initiatives focused on women and enrich the school curricula through the lens of engineering, aerospace and robotics. Additionally, the nature of the club promotes positive character traits, instills confidences in underrepresented populations related to STEAM and supports contributions to the community through hands on lessons and real world application using tech tools, not toys; benefitting the school as a whole. The 5th graders in GEAR© create and facilitate one time STEAM lessons for any interested 4th and 5th graders as part of our B.O.T.S. (Building Our Technology Stewards) workshop series.  This club also fosters good-natured 21st century ambassadors, who represent HCA in the community and demonstrate an appreciation for STEAM as we seek to inspire the workforce of the next generation, especially focused on women in STEAM careers. Registration is required, spaces are limited, and any 4th or 5th grade HCA scholar is welcome. Please contact megan.tucker@hillsborocharter.org for more information.  Enrollment occurs at the beginning of each school year.
