Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jane Mouritzen

This is my 7th year at Sugarland Elementary as a reading specialist. I joined Loudoun County Public School 18 years ago as a teacher's assistant in special education. I taught 1st and 2nd grade at Arcola Elementary for 9 years. I graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science in Psychology through the University of Natal in South Africa.  After a life-long dream of being a teacher, I graduated from the University of Shenandoah with a license in special and elementary education. I completed my Masters in Education in Reading. I am excited to be working with the wonderful students and staff at Sugarland.

My family immigrated to the USA from South Africa 23 years ago. We were granted citizenship in 2007 and are very proud to be American citizens. I have two beautiful children, 26 and 23 years old. Both graduated from Virginia Tech - GO HOKIES!  We have one pet cat, Pumpkin. My husband owns his own business in Loudoun County.

We are all huge soccer fans and support Liverpool in the premier league and DC United locally. We adopted the Steelers as our football team. We all like to be active and travel. My favorite pastime is reading and going for long walks.
