• Happy Summer!  I hope you are taking some time to rest, relax, and have fun with friends and family.  Clearing your mind and getting excited for the next exciting chapter of your high school career is one of the most important things you can do this summer to prepare for the 2019-2020 school year.  That being said, there are some things you can do to prepare yourself for Advanced Placement Calculus.  You may not believe this, but Calculus and Algebra go hand in hand!  Your Algebra skills are ESSENTIAL to your success in Calculus.  Review the following:
    • slopes of lines
    • writing equations of lines (especially in point-slope form)
    • writing equations of horizontal and vertical lines
    • factoring
    • finding horizontal and vertical asymptotes
    • finding the zeros (x-intercepts) of functions
    • finding the solution to a system of equations
    • finding the slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines
We will also spend a great deal of time using a graphing calculator as a tool to enhance our study of Calculus.  I will demonstrate using the TI-84 plus.  Please be sure that you know how to do the following:
    • analyze the behavior of a function using both the graph and the table
    • graph multiple functions at the same time
    • make a "pretty" fraction using the alpha y = function
    • find the intersection point of two functions and store the value
    • find the zeros
    • use the vars button
We are looking forward to a wonderful school year.  Feel free to email us at any time this summer if you have any questions or concerns.
