Welcome! My name is Wes Strayer.  I am excited to be a member of Rosa Lee Carter's Kindergarten Team!  This will be my third year here at Rosa Lee Carter.  I could not imagine a better place to share my passion for teaching and learning!

I am a native of Pennsylvania.  I grew up in a small town just outside of Harrisburg, PA.  After graduation from high school, I attended West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Early Grades Education (PK-4).  Following graduation from West Chester University, I ventured to Virginia to begin my professional career within Loudoun County Public Schools.  This will be my sixth year within LCPS.  I began my career at Newton-Lee Elementary where I taught third grade for two years, before moving to Kindergarten.  This will be my fourth year in Kindergarten; I have taught both half-day and full-day programs.  During my early years within the county I pursued my Masters Degree.  I attended Walden University where I earned a Masters in Education with a specialization in Teacher Leadership.  While I have experience in all grades K-3, Kindergarten is the heart of my educational passion.

Kindergarten is the beginning of our educational careers; the first step into learning and experiences that help us grow and develop.  I believe, that as Kindergarten Teachers, it is our responsibility to give students a solid foundation; a foundation that they can build upon as they advance throughout their educational careers.  I believe that learning should be fun, engaging, and relevant to the world around them.  As a result of this belief, Project-Based Learning is a cornerstone of my teaching philosophy and practice.  Additionally, I believe that parents and families are a critical part of student success.  Students achieve their greatest successes when we are able to work together as a cohesive team.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family back home in PA.  I also enjoy staying active and spending time with my friends, and puppy.  I have a four-year-old spaniel/hound mix named Greyson.  He certainly keeps me active!

As I mentioned previously, I believe that families are a critical component of student success.  As such, I believe in continual communication.  Please feel free to email me anytime at wesley.strayer@lcps.org.

I am looking forward to a year full of fun and exciting learning!

Welcome families!  My name is Sylvia Donovan.  I am excited to be a memeber of the Kindergarten Team here at Rosa Lee Carter.  I am a native of Virginia.  I grew up in Fairfax County. After graduating high school, I attended Virginia Tech where I majored in Home Economics Education.  I began my teaching career in Fairfax County where I taught Home Economics in high school for 10 years.  Though I loved teaching, I left to raise my children.  After my children were grown and began attending school, I also went back to school.  This time, I began my career as a Kindergarten Assistant.  This will be my 14th year as a Kindergarten Assistant and I absolutely love this position!

My husband and I have three children.  I enjoy reading, exercising, baking, and traveling!  In my free time on the weekends, I enjoy walking the dogs at Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) shelter.  I am looking forward to working alongside Mr. Strayer to provide your children with a fun and engaging year full of learning!
