2024 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s Schools (SRGS)


    Are You Currently a High School Sophomore or Junior?  If so, You Should Consider Applying to the 2024 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s Schools.  

    Virginia Governor's Schools Provide Academically and Artistically Challenging Programs for Four Weeks over the Summer. with the Support of the Virginia Board of Education and the General Assembly, the Governor’s Schools Presently Include Summer Residential, Summer Regional, and Academic-year Programs Serving More than 7,500 Gifted Students from Around the Commonwealth.

    The Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s Schools are approximately four weeks long and are held each summer on various college and university campuses throughout Virginia.  The Governor’s Schools offer students a unique opportunity to work and study not only with other students with similar talents and interests but also with mentors, professors, scientists, and other professionals in their field of interest.

    LCPS students must apply through their home high schools.  Students may apply to only one Governor’s School.  School divisions select the students they nominate for the state level application process.

    • Humanities (held at Radford University)
    • Math, Science, and Technology (held at the University of Lynchburg)
    • Visual and Performing Arts (held at Radford University)

    And Mentorships in:

    • Marine Science (held at Christopher Newport University/VIMS)
    • Engineering (held at Christopher Newport University/Jefferson Lab)

    Student/Parent Handout (Quick Reference Document for 2023 SRGS)


    Applications must be: completed online, typed, printed, signed by the student and parent, and submitted to Ms. Benz (Celia.Benz@lcps.org) or Mr. Barrios (Juan.Barrios@lcps.org) in the School Counseling Office, by December 8, 2023. 

    Do not obtain a principal signature; that will be done by the counselors. Please do not staple your application (use a paperclip). DO NOT send your application to the VA Department of Education.

    *For Letters of Recommendation—please ask your recommenders well in advance if they could provide you with a positive letter of recommendation for Governor’s School. When they agree to serve as a recommender, please email the teacher a  Teacher Recommendation Form as well as the Teacher Evaluation Form from your Governor’s School Application. Please ensure your name is typed at the top of the Evaluation Form and provide both to your teachers no later than November 27. Their Letter of recommendation and Governor’s School Teacher Evaluation Form are due to Ms. Benz or Mr. Barrios by December 8, 2023.
